What does expectation mean?
Dictionary: Expectation – the act or state of looking forward,
it’s an expectant mental attitude , excitement, hopefulness.
Expectant is used to refer to a woman who is pregnant !
When you have an expectation you give birth to what you are expecting
Many people have faith in God, they believe in God, but have no expectation because expectation is an attitude of someone who is expecting something to happen.
What is your expectation for your future?
What is your expectation for the next year, 2019?
What is your expectation for your family?
What is your expectation for this meeting?
Expectation and faith, look similar, but are not the same.
Expectation is an attitude of those who have hope, someone who is waiting for something to happen, many have faith but have no expectation.
Faith and expectation – both work together and go together.
Many Christians lose their hope before losing their faith. It’s only at the end that they lose their faith.
Faith comes by hearing the word of God – expectation comes by entrusting the word of God.
expectation must go along with faith!
For expectation is an attribute of faith.
Faith is generated in your heart and expectation is the attitude that motivates you to walk towards the miracle.
Expectation makes you act while you wait for the miracle.
Lack of expectation prevents miracles, even if you believe in God
Expectations are a fundamental part of life. They are the ones who create the motivation to do everything we do.
Examples:
The expectation of receiving a salary motivates us to go to work every day.
The expectation of being successful motivates us to study for an exam.
On the contrary, when we do not have expectations or the expectation are poor or small our life remains the same!
God Himself deals with us based on expectations.
Hebrews 11: 1
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:6
“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
Faith points to expectation , if you believe that He is gonna reward you !
You must know whom you trust in order to expect
2 Timothy 1:12 “That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.”
Job said the same thing:
Job 19:25
“I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.”
There are situations and problems in life that are impossible, no solution
Job , David , Jesus , Paul had big problems but they kept their expectation!
Abraham had a problem like that, and he had to believe against hope.
He was expecting a son …..
Everything said that he could not have a son, he was 100 years old, Sara was 80 years old, she did not ovulate, of course there was no solution.
Romans 4:20
“No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God,”
Because he had expectation, he gave glory to God and grew strong and received the miracle !
Abraham strengthened himself by giving glory to God! Because of his trust in God he did not lose hope!
True faith will never be alone; it will always be accompanied by expectation.
If you believe in God you need to be full of expectation.
Where there is no expectation, there is no faith!
Every Christian who prays in faith looks forward to the Lord’s action.
Your blessings follow your expectations
Mark 5: 24-34 tells the story of a woman who had been a victim of a bleeding for twelve years.
She had suffered a lot and spent all her money with doctors, and she had not improved; on the contrary, she had worsened.
However, when she heard about Jesus, she had a real expectation, which led her to draw up a plan to be healed.
Mark 5:28
“For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.””
Notice that hearing about Christ created in her a hope founded not on supposition, promise or probability, but on something real and possible. And that made her act in faith.
The expectation that led her to act in faith resulted in a triple blessing: she was cured of that bleeding (her body), saved (her spirit) and received peace (her soul).
Jesus exceeded that woman’s expectations.
We need to understand that if God is gonna do something He looks for people who have expectation .
We need to expect God to pour out his Spirit,
We need to expect for God to do the impossible.
We need to live with great anticipation – Saying Lord what’s gonna happen in this service today ?
Praise with expectation
Sow in expectation
Pray in expectation
Expect miracles
Expect the out pouring of the Holy Spirit, the fire of God over us
The baptism of the Holy Spirt is poured out when people are in expectation.
Colossians 2:14
“By canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”
I want announce you today there is nothing between you and your miracle.
He has removed and nailed to the cross and you need to be in expectation, believing that God is ready to do something in this Service today
Expect God to pour out his Spirt today over your family , over you , over the people around you ,
Expect pain to leave your body,
Expect to be healed,
Expect all member of your family serving the Lord,
Expect to receive a miracle
Expect to be delivered from alcoholism , drugs addiction, cigarettes, fear , depression, EXPECT !
Many of you are facing giants in your life !
You have defeated a “Lion” , you defeated a “bear” and he’s gonna give you this “giant” and you need to be in expectation ……
Romans 8:17
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
We are not just heirs but join heirs /co heirs , because if Jesus says I can have it
We can see the power of expectation in acts chapter 3
The bible said there was a lame man who was brought to the temple and was there daily .
Many people say preaching this scripture that the miracle depended only on peter and James saying: silver and gold I have not but such I have I give you , in the name of Jesus
Of course the name of Jesus has power. But notice that the miracle of the lame man,
Act 3:5
The man looked at them expecting to receive something from them !
This man said : I don’t hope , I don’t believe, I expect to receive something from that man of God .
You have to have expectation that God are going to use you to touch people , to save people , to shake the earth.
Do You have expectation that something is coming ?
God is going to do what you have not seen yet !
1 Corinthians 2:9
“However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him—”
Your eyes have not seen , your ears have not heard , and your Mind has not conceived what I have prepared for you ,
You have to keep going, you have to have expectation that the best is yet to come!
If you believe the best is yet to come.
You serve a God that is greater than your faith ,
you serve a God that is greater than your prayer life !
Because God says He is not unrighteous to forget the labour of your love
Hebrews 6:10
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”
To forget you God has to be unrighteous and that is impossible!
It’s impossible for God to forget his promises to you , so the only question is?
Are you expecting it ? Look at your neighbour and ask : are you expecting? Are you expecting again ?
That lame man looked at Peter and John expecting to receive something from them !
What he really was expecting was what he got every time he went to the temple, but God saw that He came expecting to receive something and he probably thought he would get a blessing for the day just enough to keep going but God said , because you’re expecting to receive something, I’m going to change your life in one service !
When you have expectations God says I’m gonna change your life in one service !
I’m saying that if somebody here suffers from addiction, this is the service that’s going to change your life
I’m saying that if somebody‘s marriage is in serious trouble , this is the service that is going to change the rest of your life.
The bible said in mark 10 , there was a blind man named Bartimeaus , who had a beggars garment.
When we read about the garment we don’t think anything about it.
The government issue them an oficial beggars garment. It was a certain colour, that anybody, any citizens who saw a beggar on the sideway, or the side of the road begging, if they had that government cloth covering over them , it said they were a legitimate beggar , then you can give them something because they are really blind , ill , lame .
The bible says when he heard Jesus was passing by , he did something amazing, he took his blind garment , and cast it away – says the scripture
Mark 10:50
“And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.”
What he was saying was :
I know I can not see yet , I know I’m not healed yet ,
but if Jesus is anywhere in my town I’m casting it away fully expecting that I will never go back to that life of begging again Jesus is going to give me a miracle today ! And immediately he received healing
If you have expectation, your expectation have to lead you into action !
