The power of our thoughts

Prov 23.7 “For as hethinks in his heart, so is he”

When you understand the power of your thoughts, you will understand why is so important to take responsibility for what you are thinking.

Thinking is a powerful creative force, both a blessing and a curse, and should not be taken lightly.

Neurosciences nowadays had proved what God and his word was so serious about- the importance of us capturing our thoughts and renewing our minds.

The author of the book- Switch On Your Brain – Caroline Leaf – a neuroscientist and Christian also said:

“ As we think, we change the physical nature of our brain. As we consciously direct our thinking, we can wire out our toxic patterns of thinking and replace them with healthy thoughts. New thoughts network grow. We increase our intelligence and bring healing to our brains, minds, and physical bodies.” (Leaf, 20)

It is with our minds that we decided to follow God’s rules and live in peace despite what is going on around us. “Brothers and sisters, God has shown you his mercy. So I am asking you to offer up your bodies to him while you are still alive. Your bodies are a holy sacrifice that is pleasing to God. When you offer your bodies to God, you are worshiping him. 2- Don’t live any longer the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Romans 12:1-2 NIRV

Remember- Salvation is by grace and it happens in a day. But sanctification is a process , is a walk, day by day making choices with the help of our best friend. The Holy Spirit. As you learn to listen to him you will be able to choose the good, pleasing and perfect plan that God has for you. 

We have many examples of people who were changed as they started walking with God.

I want mention Paul the Apostle. He was a crazy and mad man. He was a murder, a man full of anger and hatred.

Look what he said about himself:

“You heard how I behaved as a follower of the Jewish religion—how I fanatically persecuted God’s church, savagely trying to destroy it. I surpassed my contemporaries in the practice of the Jewish religion because I was so fervently devoted to the traditions of my ancestors.”

Galatians 1:13-14

His main goal in life was to get rid off  The followers of Jesus Christ. He was a very zealous man full of religious beliefs.  ( Acts 8:3; Tit 3:3  )

Before he had no revelation of the love of God. His mind was blind, he could not think properly. Then  he had an encounter with Jesus in the Damascus road and he was transformed. He was born again and he’s mind was transformed and his behaviour changed ( Acts 9. 1-5).

In the letter to the Galatians, it’s by the way Paul first letter, he mentioned more about his experience with Jesus and how he was transformed. Gal 1:17, 18 and 2:1; Tit 3: 4-7

In all his teaching through his letters we can see his main focus. It is to help you and me as a member of the body of Christ that it is to  do with your behaviour we can show the changes that happened inside of us.

In his life and in his preaching.  It’s very clear that to follow Jesus is as process of renewing of the mind. It is a battle of choices and  With the help of God you can choose to obey and be blessed.

Some bible verses that talks about renewing of the mind that you can study: Eph. 6. 10- 18 ; 2 Co 11. 3; Gal 5. 19-22; Eph. 4. 17-28

Let’s read : Philippians 4:5-8, 12-13

 “5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:5-8, 12-13 NIV

This passage teach us how important it is to change our way of thinking.  Our thoughts, emotions are a reflection  of our way of how we do things, also your way to react to situations.

Around you everything can go very bad but if you have a positive mindset you will overcome. If you have a negative mindset the situation will overcome you.

You can choose, but in order to do it you need to be aware of it. You need to understand that you are making choices all the time.
