Under the Shadow of the Almighty

Life is full of threats.  Everyday around us we see bad things, tragedies, accidents and problems.

How do we find peace in such a threatening world?

Psalm 91:1-16

INTRODUCTION

Life is full of threats.  Everyday around us we see bad things, tragedies, accidents and problems.

How do we find peace in such a threatening world?

Can we rest in the shade of God’s power?

Human being is exposed to many risks every day, from natural hazards (diseases, accidents, crime and so on), and man has no way to completely protect himself.  This is where a relationship with God makes all the difference, not only in relation to eternity, but in relation to everyday life.  Psalm 91 is a tremendous statement about the safety and protection which who walks with God has.

Let us study and learn about it…

1) THERE ARE MANY ENDANGERING FEATURES SURROUNDING OUR LIVES

– vs 3,5,6 and 10 – The Biblical expressions show many threats: “snare of the fowler” (traps set up by the devil, “deadly pestilence” (disease of high destructive power), “night terrors” (violence, crime, spiritual, disturbances), “arrow that flies by day” (dangers in the street, at work), “the pestilence that stalks in the darkness” (the consequences of sin)

2) GOD IS OUR SAFE PLACE IN THE MIDST OF SO MANY THREATS

In this Psalm the Lord is presented as someone who can keep us in peace. See how He is revealed:

  1. Most high and almighty- He is above all things.
  2. Refuge and fortress- God is our safe place where we can hide in and be protected
  • Keeping the Bible opening on Psalm 91 does not protect us, the only way to be protected by God is to trust, approach and to have a private relationship with Him.
  • Dwelling in God’s presence- we will enjoy and have full peace.
  • Assume our faith- Faith means complete trust, the Psalmist says this should be told to everyone, as Christian people we cannot have a “shy” faith. Everyone has to know that we trust in God. V. 2; (Matthew 10:32) “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
  • Facing struggles boldly- “Tread upon” is about overcoming challenges not be afraid. V. 13.

Jesus spoke about it in the of (Luke 10:19) I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Be an overcomer!

As long as believers live in the world, they will be going against the flow of this present world system. They will experience pressures, adversity, problems, opportunities to sin, temptations, and struggles. But in all these things, the believers can be an overcomer because CHRIST has overcome the world.  Since Christ has overcome the world and He lives inside us through the power of the Holy Spirit, therefore, to the degree that we draw on His strength, we can overcome any issue.

Brothers and sisters I will give some examples : 6 years ago Suzana my lovely wife was very sick in the Hospital Doctors say She will not survive, as you can see She is there alive because of the grace of God, even though   we have been facing so many trouble, by the grace of God we are able to overcome them one by one, if God did it for my family He can do it for you as well, Just believe, trust and be in His presence always.

Our faith will lead us to keep fighting, overcome obstacles and don’t be afraid for anything.

Being attached to the Lord in deep love- loving him continuously, we should spend our time with God everyday, his presence in our lives must be 24 hours and 7 days.

Think about it!

  1. We have only one life and it will pass by.
  2. Just what we do for God remains.
  3. You can do whatever you want, but it will not echo into eternity, unless it is done for God!!

CONCLUSION

IN THE SECRET PLACE OF THE MOST HIGH

This psalm gives a promise of total supernatural protection to God’s people.  The key is that they live “in the secret place of the Most High “and “abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (V. 1). People who live in close relationship with God can be assured of His supernatural protection in life.

The traps and schemes of the Devil will be destroyed before they can touch the believer who walks closely with God.  In addition, God’s angels will be assigned to watch over us and protect us (v 11,12). We will “tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent We shall trample underfoot” (v. 13).  In other words, we will take authority over Satan and demonic powers.

Job was a blameless and upright man; he feared God and shunned evil, but he has faced sickness, he has lost his  children and his wealth etc.  He said in:

Job 19:25 I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

Dear brothers and sisters God will fight your battle He is alive, just approach, trust, believe and remain in His presence all the time. If you do that, you will experience the supernatural life, because He never change, He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore, Jesus is alive.

CHALLENGES

  1. To make more effort to pray and read/study the bible everyday at least twice per day, when we get up and before go to bed.
  2. To get more and more involved with Church project, like prayer meetings, cell meetings, and all upcoming events.
  3. To express our love more and more to our household and people around us.
  4. To prioritise God, putting Him in first place all the time in our lives.

May the Lord Jesus Christ help us, Jesus loves you so much and so do I.

Have a blessed week you all, and give a big hug to yours neighbours.  See you next week God bless and keep you all.
