We are exploring the profound truth of “The Power of the Blood.” Two weeks ago, we laid the foundation with the message, “Redeemed by His Suffering.” We traced the seven precious outpourings of Jesus’ blood, understanding how each drop was intentionally shed to cover every area of our brokenness and bring about our complete salvation. We saw the depth of His love and the cost of our redemption.
In the second message, “The Word of Our Testimony,” we learned that although the Blood was shed, its power is activated in our lives through our spoken confession – our testimony of what the Blood has done and who God is. We saw how our words are the “hyssop” that applies the power of the Lamb’s Blood to our doorposts, bringing victory over the accuser.
Today, we delve even deeper. We’ve already established that the Blood was shed, and how we access its power. Now, we want to fully understand WHAT the Blood truly does for us – its living, active, and continuous provisions. This isn’t just ancient history or theological theory; this is a daily reality for every believer!
Once again, let’s declare our foundational scripture:
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”
Revelation 12:11 NKJV”
Today, we’re going to focus on how that triumph is executed through the incredible provisions that the precious Blood of Jesus guarantees for every believer. We will explore four crucial and transformative provisions that the precious Blood of Jesus assures us of.
The Living Provisions of the Blood of Jesus
- The Blood of Jesus Brings Radical Redemption: We Are Bought Back and Set Free!
The first incredible provision of the Blood is Redemption. To be redeemed means to be bought back, to be delivered from captivity through the payment of a price. We were all born into slavery – slaves to sin, slaves to Satan, slaves to the law. We were in a spiritual debtors’ prison, with no means to pay our debt.
Ephesians 1:7 (NIV):
“In Him we have REDEMPTION through His BLOOD , the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
1 Peter 1:18-19 (NIV):
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were REDEEMED from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious BLOOD of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
The Slave Auction and the Unpayable Debt.
Imagine a bustling slave market, centuries ago. People being auctioned off, their lives belonging to another, their future hopeless. Or, perhaps, imagine yourself drowning in an unpayable debt, all your assets being confiscated, your future bleak. You are helpless. Suddenly, a figure approaches, a man of immense wealth and compassion. He looks at you, pays the exorbitant and impossible price, and with a stroke of a pen, declares: “You are free! Your debt is paid!” He not only pays the price of your debt but claims you as his own, inviting you into a new and glorious life.
That, my friends, is what Jesus did for us with His Blood. He didn’t just forgive our sins; He paid the ransom to buy us back from the dominion of darkness. He broke the chains of sin and the enemy’s power over our lives. He looked at our spiritual bankruptcy and said: “I will pay it all.” The Blood of Jesus redeems you from the hand of the enemy!
- The Blood of Jesus Brings Continuous Purification: We Are Kept Clean!
Beyond initial forgiveness, the Blood of Jesus provides continuous purification. It’s not a one-time clean-up; it’s a continuous process of purification that keeps us in fellowship with a holy God.
1 John 1:7 (NIV):
“But IF we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the BLOOD of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.”
If you walk in the Light, you have communion with the church and the blood purifies you. Notice the word “purifies” – it’s in the present tense, indicating an ongoing action. As we walk in the light, confessing our sins, His blood continuously purifies us.
Illustration: The Self-Cleansing Protective Garment
Imagine you’ve been given a special, divine garment to wear, a robe woven from light and purity. In this dusty, morally complex world, it’s inevitable that you’ll pick up “spiritual dust” or “moral smudges” – small failures, wrong attitudes, or moments of carelessness. But this isn’t like ordinary clothing that gets increasingly soiled. This garment possesses a unique, miraculous property: it constantly purifies itself. Every time a speck of dirt or a stain (representing sin or impurity) lands on it, an invisible, divine cleansing mechanism activates, and the garment instantly becomes pristine again. It’s not that you never encounter dirt, but that the state of being dirty is never allowed to settle or become permanent.
The Blood of Jesus is like that self-cleansing, protective garment. As long as we remain in Christ and walk in His light, confessing our shortcomings, the power of His Blood is continuously at work, actively cleansing us from all sin. It’s not about achieving perfection on our own, but about being perfectly cleansed and kept in fellowship with God because we are always covered by its active, purifying power.
Upon accepting Jesus, believers are no longer slaves to sin but are empowered by the Holy Spirit and the cleansing blood of Christ to actively resist sin’s power and live a transformed life.
Someone without Jesus remains a slave to sin, powerless to resist it. However, upon surrendering to Jesus, receiving the Holy Spirit, and being covered by His precious Blood, we are empowered to say ‘no’ to sin.
- The Blood of Jesus Grants Bold Access: We Can Enter God’s Presence!
Before Jesus, access to God’s holy presence was highly restricted. Only the High Priest, once a year, could enter the Most Holy Place, and only with blood. A thick veil separated God from His people. But the Blood of Jesus changed everything!
Hebrews 10:19-22 (NIV):
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the BLOOD of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”
Illustration: From Locked Door to VIP Access Imagine wanting to meet a king, the most powerful person in the land. There are guards, locked gates, strict protocols – no ordinary person simply walks in. You would need an invitation, a special pass, otherwise your entry would surely be denied. But what if the King’s own Son, a beloved Prince, stepped forward and said: “They are with me. Allow them my access. My name is on their pass.” Suddenly, every barrier is removed, every door swings open, and you enter directly into the King’s throne room with confidence and joy.
That is the access the Blood of Jesus gives us. The veil that separated us from God was torn from top to bottom at Jesus’ death. His Blood is our ultimate VIP pass, our direct connection. We no longer need human intermediaries. We can approach boldly the throne of grace, not hesitantly, not fearfully, but with confidence that we are welcome and accepted, because of His Blood.
- The Blood of Jesus Intercedes For Us: It Speaks a Better Word!
This is one of the deepest and most comforting certainties. The Blood of Jesus is not silent; it is speaking on our behalf in heaven!
Hebrews 12:24 (NIV):
“to Jesus the Mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled BLOOD that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”
Abel’s blood cried out for vengeance (Genesis 4:10). But the Blood of Jesus? It speaks a “better word.” It speaks mercy, forgiveness, and grace.
The Silent Advocate in Court – Imagine again a courtroom scene where you are being tried. The prosecutor (Satan) is relentlessly listing all your past wrongs, highlighting every flaw, painting a picture of your guilt. You feel overwhelmed, unable to defend yourself. But then, you notice a figure standing silently beside you – a powerful Advocate.
He doesn’t say a word to you, but his very presence, the mark of his sacrifice, speaks silently and powerfully to the Judge. He points to his own work, his own righteousness, his own payment. And the Judge, seeing this supreme sacrifice, declares you innocent.
The Blood of Jesus is our silent, yet always speaking, advocate in the heavenly court.
Even when we don’t know what to pray, even when we feel utterly unworthy, His Blood is there, constantly testifying on our behalf. It is pleading for mercy, declaring our redemption, confirming our justification before the Father. It is a powerful and incessant prayer for you.
Conclusion
My dear friends, the Blood of Jesus is not just a historical event. It is a living, active, and powerful force that is working in your life right now! He has redeemed you, He purifies you, He grants you bold access to God, and He continuously intercedes for you.
When the enemy comes to accuse you, when guilt tries to oppress you, when fear tries to paralyse you, remember the powerful truth of Revelation 12:11:
“And they overcame him by the BLOOD of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”
Revelation 12:11 NKJV”
Your victory is guaranteed! It is not just by the Blood, but through the living provisions of the Blood that you overcome.
I challenge you this week:
- Meditate on these provisions. Which one resonates most with your current need?
- Confess them boldly. Remember, your testimony is the hyssop that applies this power. Declare daily: “By the Blood of Jesus, I am redeemed! I am purified! I have bold access! His Blood intercedes for me!”
- Live in the reality of your freedom. Do not allow the enemy to steal what Jesus already paid for. Walk with the confidence, joy, and peace of someone who is truly free and deeply protected.
God bless you!
