Who is Jesus?

There is a story in the bible who show us that Jesus calmed the storm.

Jesus and the disciples left the crowd and they got a boat to go to another place.

A furious storm came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?””

I think you know this story, but I want to make you think about this last verse today. Let’s read:

“They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Mark 4:41 NIV

Who is this?

Many people spend hours and hours studying about useless things.

People watch hours of movies that don’t add anything to their lives.

They waste money trying to understand more about business, beauty, fashion clothes… but today I have a different and real topic to talk to you about:

Today I want to help you acknowledge The Lord! Let’s learn about Jesus. Who is He? Who is Jesus?

We need to understand more about him…

I want to talk about the one who deserves all glory! I want to talk to you about the one who is worthy to receive all praise and worship!

His name is Jesus Christ!

The message today is: Who is Jesus?

I could come here and speak to you about prosperity, faith, love, miracles, signs and wonders, but if I don’t speak about The One who makes everything happen, it’s not worth it. Maybe you’ve heard about Jesus but you don’t know him. You come to Church but you don’t know much about Jesus.

We need to understand Him. We have to get the real reason why Jesus came on earth and died for us at the cross. So, today be ready to learn more from the King and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Who is this?

Today I will try to answer the disciples question.

Let’s read John 1.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:1-5, 12, 14 NIV

The apostle John started to write his gospel speaking about the beginning of the Creation.

And he tells us some real important things:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John is talking about Jesus Christ to his readers. He says:

In the beginning Jesus was there, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God.

He describes Jesus as The Word of God. And why?

I can try to answer you…

When someone comes to you and says: I care about you. If they only say it and do nothing, then you think: It was just words… No action of care.

If I come to Lilian and I say: Honey, I love you. Ok, that’s fine.

But if I tell her: Honey, I love you. Here is my credit card. You can go buy whatever you feel like. Oh, Now, she understood my love, because I’ve spoken and shown my love for her… It’s just a joke…but here is what happens…

If I say: I love you and I hug her, I smile at her, I serve her, she definitely will feel my love and she will know that my words are true.

So, here we have a lesson about Jesus Christ:

Jesus is the incarnation of the word of God

Jesus is the word of God telling us: I love you! I love all of mankind.

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.”

1 John 4:9 NIV

God sent Jesus as His word to say to tell us: I love you!

…speak about love of God (come and say: I really care about you, I see your suffering, you are not alone… the word of God)

How did it happen?

God knows that words without action are not enough for us to feel his love, because we are human beings. We need to understand, see God’s love. So, Jesus came as the word of God and he showed us a great act of love:

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

1 John 4:10 NIV

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

John 3:16-17 NIV

Jesus is The expression of God’s love!

Now we understand God’s word. He says: I love you, and I show my love for you. I sent my only son to die for you on the cross. This is the perfect love! Jesus as The word of God, when he was here on earth, he showed God’s love. All people that he met, he loved them…

The woman beside the well was loved, the sick, the unbelievers, tax collectors, governors, friends, family…everybody was touched by Jesus’ love.

Words without action are not worthy.

We can learn with Jesus. How are you loving your family? Words only? Thoughts? But I buy the groceries, I pay for rent…it’s your duty…I am talking about acts of Love.

Jesus loves you! So he showed his love for you. No, go and do the same to your family and friends.

In the text we read, the verse says:

“Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

John 1:3 NIV

(Explain about Jesus…) He made everything …in the beginning he was with God, he was God and through him all things were made.

Jesus is the beginning and the end of all things.

Jesus is in the bible since the first chapter in Genesis, until the last book of revelation.

In life, we are born, Jesus gives us the breath of life, and at the end of our story We will meet Him face to face…We need him in all things..

Look at what Jesus said about this…

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

John 15:5 NIV

 John registered it: Jesus said

Apart from me you can do nothing!

You need Jesus to do everything, from the moment you wake up, when you go to school, at your job, until you lay down again in bed, you need Jesus Christ! He is everything and John knew it so, he registered it 7 times Jesus saying He is important to us. And I’d like to show you right now…

Remember the Disciples question?

Who is this? Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Bread of life

“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”John 6:35

Jesus spoke these words after a quiet night alone in the wilderness. He fled to this wilderness after the miracle of feeding the 5,000 men (not including women and children) with just five loaves and two fish. Following this miracle and these words, the people, somehow, still asked for a sign that they could believe in Him. After all, they argued, their ancestors had manna. Jesus assured them that although their ancestors were given manna, they were dead. He offered the kind of Bread that those who had it would never die.

What type of bread are you feeding your soul?… (speak about..)

Jesus is the bread of life!

Jesus is the light of the world

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

Jesus is the light for those who are walking in the darkness…Do you need light? Are you blind to situations in your life? Come to Jesus, he is the light!

Jesus is the door

“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.”

John 10:9

Jesus is the door of salvation! There is no other way to be saved, only through Jesus. It will not be your kindness that will save you, it will not your mercy that will save you, it will not your obedience that will save you… Jesus Christ is the only door to salvation.

And I ask you… Have you entered through this gate yet? If not, go to Jesus! He is the door to salvation.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:11 NIV

Jesus is the Door and so much more. He is the Shepherd—the One whose voice the sheep know and trust. The Shepherd will protect and save his sheep at any cost.

It reminds me the song we sing about The love of Jesus as The Good shepherd who left 99 sheep to rescue only one…

Jesus is the good shepherd. You can listen to his voice, you can be rescued through him.

Jesus is the resurrection and the Life

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;”

John 11:25

Jesus spoken that when Lazarus was dead, and his sister Mary and Martha were asking Jesus if he could rise Lazarus from the death.

Jesus said: I am the resurrection and the Life!

Jesus can raise you again. If you are stuck, he can set you free, if your dreams are dead, Jesus can bring life again, if you are frustrated and hopeless about something, He is the Life! He can give hope to you again! Jesus is the resurrection and the life!

Jesus is the way and the truth and the life

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6 NIV

There is only one way who leads you to heaven: Jesus!

In the world many people say: every path guides you to heaven, what is important is to be kind, good, not to lie, not to kill and you’ll go to heaven. It’s a lie.

Jesus clearly said that to go to heaven you need to follow him.

He is the way

there is a path to Walk …..then walk through his path.

He is the truth

The truth can set you free from this evil world.

He is the life

He can give you eternal life.

Jesus, as the Way, the Truth and the Life, is God, and is our only Source of salvation.

Jesus is the vine

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

John 15:5 NIV

Jesus said: I am the vine and you are the branches. He is the source of life. To produce something good, we need him. To bear much fruit, we need to be connected to Jesus Christ. Apart from Jesus, we can do nothing.

So, today we are trying to answer the Disciples’ question. Who is this?

And now, we can answer with certainty:

Who is this?

He is the Author of life! The word of God! The creator of the world!

He is the expression of God’s love! He IS love!

Who is this?

He is the bread of life!

If you eat from him, you will never get hungry. If you drink from him, you will never get thirsty.

Who is this?

He is the light of the world, He is the door to salvation! He is the good shepherd!

Who is this?

He is the resurrection and the life, he is the way and the truth and the life! He is the vine and without him, we can do nothing!

Who is this?

He is the lamb of God who was slain and he is alive forever! He conquered the grave!

Who is this?

He is the one who walked the earth, healing people… the blind people got their sight back again, the deaf could heard, the mute sang, the dead went back to life, all because of His great power!

Who is this?

He is the one who poured out his blood for us on the cross to save us from our condemnation. He rescued us and paid the price for our debts…

He is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

He died for us on the cross, he was put in a tomb, but on the third day he resurrected, he rose from the grave in a victorious way! Hallelujah!

Who is this?

He is the one who ascended to heaven, he is seated on the throne, he is interceding for us, He is our advocate before God. He is the one who leads the Church, the one who pours out the Holy Spirit onto us.

Who is this?

He is the Owner of the Church! The one who will come back to take us to heaven. He is Coming back… He is the king of our lives, he is the king of kings and He is The Lord of lords..

Jesus Christ, to him we give all the glory, honour and praise forever and ever!
